Windjammer Barefoot Cruises, a family-owned sailing ship cruise line that has been having financial troubles, has canceled all of this week's voyages, according to a recorded message on its reservation line.
''Windjammer, with guidance from our statutory authority, has made the decision to cancel all voyages for the week of Sept. 29, 2007,'' the recording said. "This includes sailings for the Legacy, Polynesia and Yankee Clipper."
No explanation was offered, and no member of Windjammer management could be contacted.
Windjammer's four tall ships are currently stranded in various Caribbean and Central American ports with the Yankee Clipper in Trinidad, the Mandalay in Panama, the Polynesia in Aruba, and the Legacy in Costa Rica.
The line's website, Windjammer.com, also appears to be dead.
Founded in 1947, Windjammer tall ships featured an ultracasual lifestyle aboard that not only attracted traditional cruise passengers eager to try a sailing ship, but also people who would not have been caught dead on a "normal" cruise ship.
Windjammer had been attempting to arrange an equity infusion or sale or some months, but it was not clear whether a deal that might keep the cruise line alive was in the works.
