NCL's F3 Cruise Ships to Have Curved Cabin Walls

Norwegian Cruise Lines has unveiled some innovative design plans for its new F3 class of 4,200-passsenger cruise ships that include staterooms with curved walls and a new more open approach to bathrooms.

The "New Wave Staterooms" for the F3 ships, in a revolutionary twist on the current rectangular cabin layout commonly found on a cruise ship, feature curved lines, higher ceilings and – most radically – a sink and vanity out in the open in the stateroom rather than in a bathroom.

Behind what you would expect to be the bathroom door, you will find no sink but instead two separate areas -- one containing the shower, and the other the toilet.

"We have thrown away the rule book with the design of F3 and today are revealing the very first element with our New Wave staterooms. Gone are the regimented typical designs and in place are sleek staterooms that are totally outside the box, designed for the needs of tomorrow's guests," said NCL president and chief executive Colin Veitch.

The new curved look will be used for outside cabins, deluxe and standard balcony staterooms and mini-suites. NCL designers solved the problem of fitting curved cabins into the ship by designing them in blocks of two. Inside cabins, however, will continue to have straight walls.
