Costa Cruise Lines
While Costa has been part of the Carnival empire since 1997, everything on board continues to have a strong Italian flavor, and the European atmosphere attracts a more international mix of Europeans and Americans than most cruise lines. The newest of the line's ships, the 2,700-passenger Costa Magica, has joined the Costa Fortuna as two of the larger ships afloat. For those who have sailed on Carnival, the Atlantica and Mediterranea are the same design class as Carnival's Spirit class ships. The Costa Victoria was the first of the line's large ships, debuting in 1996. The Costa Europa and Costa Tropicale both had previous lives -- the Europa as the old Holland America Westerdam (not to be confused with the new Westerdam), and the Tropicale previously as a member of the Carnival fleet. The Allegra, Classica, Marina and Romantica are all smaller ships, built a decade or more ago, and now primarily marketed in Europe.
